TESTIMONIALS

ADULTS, TEENS AND KIDS

FILLS IN THE GAPS

Esteban is incredibly experienced—throughout my time working with him, he has been able to identify my needs and gaps as a drummer, and craft appropriate exercises and practice routines that have helped me improve tremendously. I really enjoy the time I spend with him, as it has allowed me to grow my technical drumming skills, but also develop as a better musician overall.

MAKES LEARNING EASIER

I have been taking drum lessons from Esteban for four years, and find him to be an excellent teacher. He shows me techniques that I can use to make learning new beats easier, and he also explains how I can practice the things I learn so that I can improve faster. Finally, he taught me good hands and feet independence, enabling syncopation. I have become a much better drummer working with Esteban.

HIGHER LEVEL

From jazz, to rock, to fusion, he is able to help students learn a variety of drumming styles which is an important factor for any drummer – from beginning to advanced.

I found that his teaching methods are approachable and fun, and take into consideration a student’s current level, working upon that to make drum lessons valuable, and most importantly, extremely useful in taking a student’s drumming to an even higher level.

EXCELLENT INSTRUCTOR

Esteban Roybal is an enthusiastic, patient teacher who is excellent at meeting students at their ability level and tailoring drum lessons based on the individual. His professionalism and friendly demeanor make him an excellent instructor.

STRONG FOUNDATION

Esteban perfectly balances kindness and firmness with our 8-year-old-son and is helping to create a strong foundation for him to learn and love music. Esteban mixes core skills using the practice pad and playing skills on the drum set just right, so my son never gets bored.

He’s a great role model in addition to a great teacher, and we feel lucky to have found him.

TOTAL PRO

Quality human being. Total pro. He cares about the details, and that’s what you want in a drummer.

As a bass player, I absolutely love playing with Esteban. As a fellow drummer myself, I can honestly say the gigs I play with him are the only times I truly can stop thinking and just let the music happen.

ESTEBAN ROYBAL, DRUM LESSONS SEATTLE

Private drum lessons at The Drum Lab Music School in Seattle center on valuing every musician and learning style, appreciating what each musician brings to the table and their distinct drumming goals.

PHILOSOPHY

No two drummers are the same or have the same journey. Whether you are just starting out, or you’ve been drumming for 30 years, I respect you as a peer hoping to advance your skills.

I am grateful to all of my students, who challenge me to think about drumming concepts in new creative ways that make me a better teacher and drummer.

EXPERIENCE

I trained with Dan Bukvich at the Lionel Hampton School of Music and the late worldclass clinician Garey Williams.
My communications degree and work as a special needs therapist have informed my teaching style, which is customized learning for each student.

The Drum Lab is the fusion of my two passions: music and teaching. I get to play electrifying shows most weekends and fill my weeks teaching amazing students.

Life informs music, and vice versa

Mostly music…with a little of the dad life, gaming, and sci-fi thrown in for good measure.
